I've just returned from a trip to Devil's Tower National Monument, the first site designated as a monument under the 1906 Antiquities Act. Teddy Roosevelt-- Democrats' favorite Republican president --used the Act extensively to protect areas of historic, scientific, and scenic beauty, including the Grand Canyon.
Devil's Tower is an amazing place, well worth the visit if you are traveling through NE Wyoming. The natural site provides a striking contrast to the human-shaped landscape of Mt. Rushmore, a half-day's drive away.
Haven't made it to the Tower yet but I did spend the weekend in the Beartooth Wilderness. 'Bout time you had a response to your blog. Hope your travels bring you through Bozeman in the near future!!

Hey Troy, good to hear from you! What are you up to these days? I spent June in Norway/Sweden, the first half of July in Wyoming, and am going to Oregon in August. Then I'm on sabbatical until January, so will be working on my book-- the same one you helped research that summer about six years ago. Was in Bozeman last summer, so probably won't make it back out there for a while.
